PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE
Suffolk FRES had a daunting task of designing
a new command post with changing technology.
It not only installed IT and radios for current use
but also planned for the future in the design. This
gave FRES a great deal of leeway for future use.
By working with local government, it was able to
obtain funding for the unit.
Although it might not always go as smooth for
other departments or counties obtaining funding
and building such a vehicle, you must preplan way in
advance, taking into consideration funding,
changing technology, and how you will operate the
unit. Choosing a manufacturer with this great deal of
technology and being able to design, engineer,
support, and take care of any future problems are
other areas of concern before you decide on the path
that you take.
